One of the first problems in dealing with the roof, was a pitch on the north side that actually funneled snow and water to a portion of the flat roof of the lower story of the garage.
I know.
Its hard to imagine. The ladder is propped up against a 2 foot flat area that connects the house with the garage. It was a bad design from day one and after many years of leaks and patches it was time to re-design the roof. Tom decided to take the peak off completely and make the roof over the “L” in the house a sloped, single pitch roof. He extended the roof to completely cover the flat portion (that is actually part of the garage, not the house) and now the north side of the roof has no funny angles to catch and keep rain or snow. The rest of the tin on the roof was replaced and new soffits built to replace the old rotten ones. Doesn’t it look spectacular?
